While we are proud of each and every one of our Morgans for their affectionate and cooperative nature, their beauty and their intelligence; every once in a while one of them goes out and wins an award or two. This page is dedicated to praising their successes ~ but all the owners that we keep in touch with are caring dedicated slaves, and that is the most important thing to us.

RAYNYDAY SUPERSTITION Lyonhil Quasar x Ragtime Abacadabra F 2005 "Merlin" was a barn favorite as a baby. He was (and still is) super friendly and curious about everything. He showed his athletic talent very early, doing smooth tempe changes along the creek bank just for the joy of being alive. Merlin grew into a lovely young stallion, and when his full brother Pinball Wizard (see farm news page) was born, we gelded Merlin. We saw the opportunity for an outstanding matched pair in the future ~ the brothers looked and moved alike, and they just loved each other. And they were purchased as a pair by a wonderful woman in NY, Debbie Gunset. Debbie's main passion is dressage, so both geldings were trained, but the focus was on Merlin. Wizard was recently sold to a young woman for dressage and trail, and his picture and story are detailed in the Farm News page. Meanwhile, here are Merlin's achievements for 2009 I received in an email from Debbie:
Merlin really is, as I told my friend Terry today, the most beautiful horse in the world. I have never experienced so many people coming over to gushover a horse in my life but he really has an almost ethereal beauty and such a pleasing personality. His current trainer, and my long term trainer, Lisa Schmidt, is an R rated dressage judge, always points out what a wonderful mind he has, always trying to please his rider/trainer and always in sync with what you are doing. The rider in the pictures is Andrea Blaskovich, Merlin's trainer last year. Andrea got some very good scores with Merlin and good comments from the judges. In the photos without the jacket, Andrea is seen winning First Place at Training Level 2 before the esteemed Judge Carol Lavell in a class competing against all professional riders on their clients' warmbloods! This year (2011) Merlin competed at the ESDCTA Memorial Weekend Dressage & CD13. He was the high-scoring Morgan at the show with rider Lisa Schmidt for owner Deborah Gunset. The event was held May 26-29. He was recognized in the AMHA newsletter. Debbie stated in her email that
Hi Jackie, I have decided to keep Merlin home this year so that I can learn to ride him. Lisa did such a great job keeping his trot and canter more balanced and controlled and I figure he is still young enough to put his training on hold for a year so that I can get comfortable with his forwardness. He is still truly beautiful and a favorite of all who meet him. By the way, he sticked today at 15h2..

RAYNYDAY CYCLONE Lyonhil Quasar x Raynyday Capricciosa F 2000 This typey and personable gelding was exported to Belgium several years ago. Prior to that he was a wonderful trail mount owned (and named) by our nephew Matt. When cars and a certain young woman became more interesting to Matt, we bought "Clancy" back. He was just a clown, and charmed us again - as he had as a baby. Soon after that we learned that Mme. Anne Singer was looking for mares to import to start a Morgan breeding program in Europe. Her description of her Ideal Morgan mare fit Clancy to a tee w/just one obvious exception. We sent her a video anyway, and she fell in love and purchased him as a gentle mount for her future husband. And now he is a competitor. Anne reported that he had clean rounds at the show in the photos below. We are thrilled that he has excelled in competition, but we knew he had it in him all along.

RAYNYDAY GRAND ILLUSION Raynyday Grand Finale x Ragtime Abacadabra F 2002
"Louie" was just another lovable baby ~ full of curiosity and affection. His mother Abby was so proud of him, and we were too! He was sold to MI as a weanling, and now he is owned by a nice young woman who is choosing to stay in touch. We just love when our owners send us news and photos. Her email is below: "I was looking at your website and spotted my horse Louie (Raynyday Grand Illusion) under Luke's progeny. I can't remember if I emailed you that picture of him or not, but I just wanted to say that the picture is of him in a hunt seat pleasure class and not a dressage competition. I bought Louie from Marilyn Muir two years ago and he has been awesome. I'm training him in dressage and as a hunter jumper. He's jumping up to 3'3" and definitely has what it takes to go higher. Thank you for breeding such a great stud. Luke has definitely passed on his athletic and sporty characteristics to Louie. I would love to eventually show him in A circuit or any hunter-jumper competitions because I know he could do it. I'll keep you updated on our showing career. Last summer all we did was trail ride, but Louie absolutely loves it. He especailly likes swimming."

APPLEBROOK TRIBUTE Raynyday Grand Finale x Raintree Rapture F 2001 Here is one of Luke's nicest and most beautiful sons, he has been showing very successfully in Open Western Pleasure for four years, and has amassed a nice show record, trophies and ribbons in this division. In 2007 hewas named Saddle Horse Report's Morgan Open Western Pleasure DivisionTop Ten Champion (5th) Trib had a great 2009 Gold Cup Show . He won all three walk-trot hunter classes, and had nice showing in the western classes as well. He has been showing walk trot this year, and doing an outstanding job. He showed in all the western walk-jog and hunter walk-trot classes, as well as walk-trot trail. (he did great in that class as well, rider error kept him from winning). He also worked in the youth of the year pattern with a beginner rider who has never ridden him before ~ (her horse didn't want to do the pattern alone). Tribute has spectacular movement, and is very forward and engaged. He is being offered as a Dressage prospect, and being the son of WC Raynyday Grand Finale he is well qualified for this endeavor. He is a substantial 15.2h H. Trib's stable manners are inpeccable, and his personality is affectionate, curious and willilng. Someone will take this horse to the pinnacle of Dressage competition ~ It may as well be you! If interested, please contact his owner, Carolyn Karasarides at: ckare1@gmail.com Tribute is located in Louisville OH

She was fabulously well behaved. She had to get unhooked to have a hind shoe pulled, straightened and put back on . I left ALL her tack on and she was standing right next to the track while the farrier was nailing the shoe back on. One of the trot races in harness came flying down to the finish. She never even flinched, even with a blind bridle on
and the race entrants coming at her from behind. In the afternoon, she ended up being put to for about 3 and a half hours and stood around in big group of horses. She slept while we all chatted and sweated, waiting for our next class. Gosh I love my little horse....."

MACUSHLA SHENANIGAN Raynyday Grand Finale x Macushla Brenna F 2004 Bred and Owned by: Sue Colby
Maine Morgan Show 1st , 4 year old Sport Horse In Hand "Shane" is following in the footsteps of his Sire and other relatives, just as we knew he would. Sue writes " I was SO pleased with how Shane handled his very first horse show. He loaded up in the pouring rain at home, had to listen to it pound on the roof the whole way up. but arrived cool and dry as a cucumber. Luckily, the rain ended by the time we got there. He hung out in the trailer for a bit and then just walked around checking everything out. Watched trailers come and go and horses being lounged and long-lined. He was such a GOOD boy.
He listened to Ray and did everything asked of him, and was calm and mannerly. "

BRIARHILL TIGER LILY Raynyday Grand Finale x Finalea Fiesta F 2002 Bred and Owned by Briarhill Morgans
This mare deserves to be on our Stars Page because she is a working cow horse, performing with style and finesse. Her owner/rider Rick says "" She works really hard.
She knows her job and she does it. This was the first time these
calves had been roped. Some of them put up a fight and she was notbothered, she stuck to her guns." One weekend when they gathered about 40 cows and calves from a 40 acre pasture to sort out 5 calves.......
"Lily galloped over some pretty rough terrain and went through brushand knee deep mud without hesitation. She worked real hard and steady.
And you couldn't ask for a prettier mare."

We don't have many photos of Cisco, but we recently heard from Leslie, and she attached a picture! So we had to share:
"Hello, I wanted to send you a picture of Cisco at his first show. He did much better than I expected as it was my fourth show, and I am still learning the ropes.
He did well in the hunter division and received first in the walk/trot trail class. I was really proud of him and look forward to the shows coming up.
Cisco is out of Raynyday Squire Jack and my deceased mare Heaven's Gate Ebony. He has a very pleasing personality and tries willingly. I do like him very much!
Sincerely,
Leslie |
